THE EARLY YEARS

Hendrix's career began in the early 1960s as a sideman for various R&B groups. His distinctive guitar style and innovative technique quickly earned him the attention of music fans and critics alike, setting him apart from his contemporaries. He made history when he released his debut album, "Are You Experienced," in 1967 with The Jimi Hendrix Experience. This record featured some of his most iconic works such as “Purple Haze” and “Hey Joe”  and inspired a generation to embrace alternative genres. He followed up this success with two further groundbreaking albums: "Axis: Bold as Love," which marked a shift towards more psychedelic sounds, and "Electric Ladyland", which is widely regarded as one of the best rock albums of all time.

His performances were equally renowned; Hendrix often used the stage to showcase his remarkable musical talent, improvising with extended solos and experimenting with unique techniques such as playing guitar behind his back or with his teeth. He also frequently combined elements of blues, jazz, funk, soul, and rock into a unique sound that was all his own. His passion for pushing boundaries with music electrified live audiences around the world until he tragically passed away in 1970 at the age of 27. To this day, Hendrix remains one of the most influential artists in popular music history; an icon whose influence still resonates nearly half a century after the release of his first record.

ALTERNATE TUNING, BENDING AND DISTORTION...

In terms of guitar gear, Hendrix was known for his use of Fender Stratocasters, which he often modified with custom paint jobs and reversed left-handed parts. He also used a variety of effect pedals, including a Fuzz Face and a Uni-Vibe, to create his signature sound. To emulate Hendrix's playing style, it's important to first understand the basics of his technique. Hendrix was known for his use of alternate tunings, such as dropped D and open E, which allowed him to play chord voicings and lead lines that were not possible in standard tuning.

He also frequently used a technique called "string bending," where he would physically push or pull on a guitar string to raise its pitch. Another key aspect of Hendrix's playing was his use of feedback. He would often turn his amp up to maximum volume and use the guitar's volume knob to control the amount of feedback being produced. This allowed him to create a wide range of sounds, from high-pitched squeals to low, rumbling drones.
